Vice-Chair: Maia Becker, Unclassified Representative

Maia Becker has worked at Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Canada since May 2005, starting as the Manager of Communications and Client Services and later appointed Vice President in 2007. As Vice President of FSC Canada, Maia is responsible for managing the national operation of the organization, as well as the implementation, uptake and market awareness of FSC certification in Canada. Since 2005, there has been a 900% increase in the area of FSC certified forests in Canada, and today FSC is the most widely recognized forest product certification program in the Canadian marketplace.

Maia has worked both internationally and locally in the areas of forest certification, marketing, economic development and education. She holds a Master’s of Forest Conservation from the University of Toronto, a Bachelor of Science from Queen’s University, and a post-graduate business diploma. Maia is also a LEED® Accredited Professional and is trained as a Sustainable Forest Management auditor, and a GRI™-G3 sustainability reporting professional.

As a frequent advisor to businesses, government and associations on responsible procurement, environmental certification, eco-labelling, and green building, Maia is a regular participant on various Boards and committees. Maia is a previous elected Board member of the Canada Green Building Council’s (CaGBC) Greater Toronto Chapter, and currently participates on the Advisory Board of Green Living Enterprises and on the Board of the Ontario Sustainable Construction and Resource Centre (OSCAR).
