Mark has ventured in professional planning for 45 years in the private and public sectors. Mark specializes in the field of land use planning, and planning and environmental policy. He has undertaken planning and environmental studies for private and public sector clients. He is President of Mark L. Dorfman, Planner Inc.
Mark is an Ontario Registered Professional Planner and is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Planners. He served as National President of the Canadian Institute of Planners from 1974 to 1976. He is a member of the American Planning Association. He was the President of Ontario Nature from 2000 to 2002, and served as President of the Ontario Society For Environmental Management. He served for three years (2005-2008) as the Chair of the Board of Directors of Nature Canada. Mark is the current the Past Chair on the Board (2008-2012).
He has appeared before the Ontario Municipal Board and other administrative tribunals to give expert evidence. He has participated in several watershed and subwatershed studies.
He is the author of several published papers and has delivered papers at various conferences and workshops.
He has been involved with the issue of aggregate resources since 1973, when he managed the preparation of aggregate policies for the first Region of Waterloo Official Plan. He has represented municipalities, community groups and aggregate producers over the years. In January, 2011, he made a formal public submission to the Ministry of Natural Resources regarding the strategy for framing provincial aggregate resource policy, together with a review of the SAROS study and the recommendations of the Aggregate Resource Advisory Committee.
