The Draft SERA Standards have been drafted around the dual concepts of Principles and Core Requirements.
- The Principles provide high-level social and environmental outcomes that act as a guiding framework for the standards.
- The Core Requirements outline the specific actions and/or outcomes that a site must meet to obtain certification. By meeting the Core Requirements a site will have successfully demonstrated its fulfillment of the standards overarching Principles.
The Principles and Core Requirements are intended to be applied in a practical way (including the scale and intensity of an operation), taking all factors into consideration with a view to an objective determination that certified sites are socially and environmentally responsible.
The proposed Principles and Core Requirements for the Draft SERA Standards are available below.
Principle 1: Compliance with laws
Principle 2: Community consultation & involvement
Principle 3: Respect for First Nations rights & culture
Principle 4: Benefits to local communities & workers
Principle 5: Environmental impacts & site stewardship
